Your wedding day is more than a timeline of events - it is a living story happening in real time. From the quiet anticipation of the morning to the laughter and celebration that fills the evening, every wedding is made up of fleeting moments that deserve to be documented and remembered. My approach to wedding photography is photojournalistic in nature, meaning I document the day as it naturally happens, capturing genuine emotion, authentic interactions, and the atmosphere that surrounds your celebration as authentically and candidly as possible. You may have heard of terms such as ‘Candid’, ‘Raw’, ‘Documentary-Style’ which is all encompassed under the Photojournalism umbrella.
Rather than heavily staging or interrupting the flow of the day, I work quietly and attentively in the background like your personal fly on the wall, observing the small details and meaningful exchanges that might otherwise pass by unnoticed. This quiet yet swift approach allows couples and their loved ones to remain fully present in the experience, knowing that the story of the day is being thoughtfully preserved as it unfolds.
While storytelling forms the heart of this style, there is also space within the day for timeless portraits and assertive direction when needed. The result is a balanced collection of images that feel both natural and intentional—photographs that honour the real spirit of the day while also creating beautiful keepsakes for generations to come.
Wedding day coverage may include the following moments and elements:
Candid Moments
Throughout the day, I focus on documenting the authentic and unscripted experiences that define your celebration on top of the main moments such as the ceremony. These moments may include laughter between friends while getting ready, emotional exchanges with family members, joyful tears during the ceremony, quiet glances between partners, and spontaneous moments on the dance floor. These images often become the photographs couples treasure most because they capture the day exactly as it felt - loving and surreal at the same time.
“One’s for Mom and Pop” - Classic Portraits
Alongside candid storytelling, there is always time set aside for a few traditional portraits. These are the timeless photographs that parents and grandparents cherish. These are images where everyone is looking at the camera and standing together in a way that will feel just as meaningful decades from now. There might be some cool combinations of people created but overall, these are the ones to showoff the wedding party and close relatives.
Group Portraits
Also apart of the classics, family and wedding party portraits are thoughtfully organized to ensure that important people in your life are documented together. These photographs are typically planned ahead of time to keep the process efficient and relaxed, allowing everyone to return quickly to celebrating. As a veteran, even if you don’t hire me specifically, it’s always best to prepare your group combination lists for ease of flow and time management when it’s time for these shots.
Couples Portraits
A quiet window of time is often reserved for portraits of the couple. These photographs may take place outdoors or within a meaningful setting, capturing both your connection with each other and the landscape or environment surrounding your wedding day. The goal is to create images that feel natural, intimate, and reflective of the place and moment you are sharing together. Love is in the air after all!
Event Coverage
The photojournalistic approach continues throughout the key moments of the celebration. Depending on your timeline and chosen package, coverage may include:
